Why servicing matters in Brisbane
Everyone remembers their aircon service the week it hits 34 degrees, which is exactly when every tech is flat out. You ring around, leave messages, and the earliest anyone can come is after the heatwave. Meanwhile the unit smells like a wet sock, the airflow’s weak and the power bill keeps climbing.
Sorted. One form and a vetted local tech who services split and ducted systems gets in touch, with a fair price upfront.
Brisbane’s long, humid summers mean air conditioners here work hard for months at a time. Moisture is constantly drawn out of the air and over the indoor coil, which makes the inside of a split system a good home for mould and bacteria. Dust and pet hair build up on the filters and fins, cutting airflow and efficiency.
A dirty system costs more to run, cools less effectively and can smell musty when it starts up. Blocked drains can cause the indoor unit to drip down the wall. Left long enough, a neglected system can ice up, lose refrigerant or fail early.
You can and should clean the filters yourself every few weeks during heavy use. A professional service goes further, cleaning the coil, fan barrel and drain, and checking the refrigerant and electrical side, which needs a licensed technician.
The difference
Getting a service the usual way vs. with us
The usual way
- Ring around in the first hot week
- Wait until someone’s free, after the heat
- Guess what ‘service’ actually includes
- Not sure who’s licensed to check the gas
With Air Conditioning North Brisbane
- One form, any time of year
- A tech who’s agreed to call you back fast
- An upfront price that lists what’s covered
- ARCtick-licensed tech, checked before they join
What a professional aircon service typically includes
Scope varies between technicians, so check what’s covered. A thorough split system service usually includes:
- Removing and washing filters
- Cleaning the indoor coil and fan barrel, often with a bag-and-wash or anti-microbial treatment
- Flushing and checking the condensate drain and tray
- Cleaning the outdoor condenser coil and checking it is clear of debris
- Checking operating pressures and temperatures for signs of refrigerant loss
- Inspecting electrical connections, isolator and cabling
- Testing remote, modes and thermostat
- For ducted: return air filter clean, outlet and duct inspection, zone and controller checks
Signs your aircon is due for a service
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth booking a service before the next heatwave.
Musty or mouldy smell
Usually a sign of mould growth on the coil or fan barrel inside the indoor unit.
Weak airflow
Clogged filters or a dirty coil restrict airflow, so the room takes longer to cool.
Water dripping indoors
Often a blocked drain or tray. Turn it off and get it checked before it damages the wall.
Higher power bills
A system working harder to move air through dirt uses more power for the same result.
Black spots on vents or louvres
Visible mould on the outlet often means more inside. A deep clean is needed.
Not serviced in over a year
In Brisbane conditions, annual servicing is a sensible baseline for most homes.

Common questions
Aircon servicing FAQs
How often should I service my air conditioner in Brisbane?
For most homes, once a year is a good baseline, ideally in late winter or early spring before the heat arrives. Homes with pets, allergies, a lot of dust or systems running most of the day may benefit from servicing every six months. Clean the filters yourself every two to four weeks during heavy use.
Can I clean my split system myself?
You can clean the filters by sliding them out, vacuuming or rinsing them, and letting them dry before refitting. Leave coil cleaning, fan barrel cleaning and anything involving the electrical or refrigerant side to a licensed technician. Spray-can coil cleaners can push dirt deeper and damage components if used incorrectly.
Does a service include a regas?
Usually not. A service checks for signs of low refrigerant. Inverter split systems are sealed and shouldn’t lose gas unless there is a leak, so a regas without finding and fixing the leak only buys time. If the technician finds low gas, they should quote for leak detection and repair separately.
Will servicing affect my warranty?
Many manufacturer warranties expect the system to be maintained according to the owner’s manual, and some require evidence of regular servicing. Keep invoices from each service. Check your warranty documents for the specific requirements for your brand and model. If you’re unsure, ask the technician to note the work done on the invoice.
How long does a service take?
A standard split system service usually takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half per unit. A deep clean with a bag wash takes longer. A ducted service can take a couple of hours depending on how many outlets there are and how accessible the roof space is.
